The Presentation. Christmas. Black History Month.
As tonight ends the Feast of the Presentation, traditionally before the coming of the reformed liturgy the Christmas season went all the way past Epiphany and ended on today, the Presentation. That is why I have kept the Madonna and Child as my social media pages’ profile images up until now from Christmas Day. The above painting of the Black Madonna at my seminary is the very source of my pages’ profile images.
Also, the Presentation comes and ends the traditional Christmas season on Feb. 2, among the first days of #BlackHistoryMonth.
During Mass today I thought of the above image, and I had this inspiration:
“My own eyes have seen the salvation which you have prepared in the sight of every people.”
(St. Simeon at Christ’s Presentation, Luke 2:30-31)
“Mine eyes have seen the glory of the coming of the Lord!”
(Martin Luther King Jr., 1968.)
